The Wireless Acoustic Pig Tracker (WAPT) can be used with several different audio connection devices. For complete freedom of movement you can use your existing Bluetooth® earphone or Bluetooth® headphones to monitor the pig sounds from WAPT. One can adjust volume using the built-in controls on either unit.

Many pig trackers already have laptop PC’s available in their truck for GPS mapping purposes, etc.  A PC program (provided with WAPT) allows the operator to remote access to:
  • Adjustable Receiver sensitivity.
  • Option to select and adjust a Variable Frequency Filter which can enhance the weld signals and lower wind and rain noise.
  • Option to select notch filters to eliminate 60Hz hum or 120Hz cathodic protection noise. (50Hz or 100Hz in Europe)
  • Option to select and adjust a two level squelch circuit which lowers volume for high level signals.
  • Option for Pig Speed Display (requiring reliable girth weld signals).
  • Pig Pass Time Logging. This feature copies the passing time to the Windows Clipboard and can then be pasted into the tracking sheet.
The ranges shown in the image below are approximate and depend upon the actual location and placement of the WAPT and the device to which it is connected.

In practical field tests it has been possible to connect up to 80 feet with good quality Bluetooth® headphones. Using headphones inside a truck cab is possible but the range will be reduced due to the surrounding metalwork.

The Cab unit is not head-mounted and thus can run at a power level well above earphone or headphones, giving increased range. In addition, it is made to hang at mid window height on any convenient fixture (mirror, sun visor or handle) to facilitate open and clear connections from the truck to the WAPT.

The Cab unit output can be monitored with passive (wired) headphones or by cable connection to the Auxillary input to the vehicle audio system.
